Please join Geo4Dev as they welcome Payne Institute Earth Observation Group Director Dr. Christopher Elvidge presenting a webinar on the development of global nighttime lights Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 10:00am – 2:20pm MT and Friday, December 11, 2020 from 10:00am – 3:45pm MT.

The symposium on Dec 10th will feature a series of presentations, including a keynote talk by Christopher D. Elvidge, Director of the Earth Observation Group at Colorado School of Mines. Elvidge pioneered the development of global nighttime lights and led the production of a 21-year time series of nighttime lights (1992-2013) using data from the U.S. Air Force’s Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP).

Our workshop on Dec 11th will train researchers, policymakers, and practitioners (especially those from low- and middle-income countries) in the application of Nighttime Lights data to important policy questions. The workshop will cover Nighttime Lights data access, interpretation, processing, visualization, and statistical analysis (including time series analysis).
