Please join CNBC and the Payne Institute for Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines as our Director Dr. Morgan Bazilian discusses President Biden’s Climate Summit on Thursday, April 22, 2021 starting at 6:30pm MT.

The summit is Biden’s first real global engagement. It is clearly a messaging exercise, and a well-constructed one. The key, in what is now cliché, is how these various high level goals and events can be grounded in domestic policy design and implementation. The US new NDC will, no doubt, be thoughtfully constructed and ambitious. That is great news for the US and should send the right signals internationally. Still, governments globally are rightfully wary of the US – given its erratic behaviour on this issue over the years, especially the last four. There is no doubt that the Biden administration takes climate change seriously, and has already moved boldly in word and action. Hopefully that momentum, and the durability of their decisions can be maintained.
