Please join the NSE Energy at Colorado School of Mines and Payne Institute Faculty Fellow Dr. Paulo Tabares-Velas present Buildings are a Big Deal! Buildings in the Context of Smart Grid, Electrification and COVID19 on Wednesday, September 23 at 4pm MT.
Buildings use about 75% of all electricity generated in the United States and drive electric peak demand in summer. However, buildings are not anymore the passive energy user that only use electricity from the grid, as
buildings can now generate electricity and/or store energy. Thus, they are becoming active players in the smart grid, adding flexibility to the grid using smart controls and thermal energy storage. Since people spend a significant amount of time indoors, it is important that no energy measure affects occupants’ health, comfort, and productivity. This presentation will navigate these aspects as well the researcher evolution from
investigating building envelopes to optimizing electric energy use in connected community.
