Please join the Payne Institute for Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines as we welcome Fellow Dr. Costa Samaras, Associate Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, presenting a webinar titled Assessing U.S. Passenger Vehicle Decarbonization Under Electrification and Automation Uncertainty on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 from 1:00pm – 2:00pm (MT).

This talk examines the pathways for meeting transportation decarbonization targets in 2030 and 2050 in the U.S. under deep uncertainty. We use a robust decision-making method to identify infrastructure and policy pathways and model the U.S. light-duty vehicle future fleet, the pace of electricity decarbonization, and total travel demand, and discuss the implications for decarbonization policy.

Costa Samaras is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and a Fellow in the Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation at Carnegie Mellon University, and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Payne Institute at the Colorado School of Mines. His research spans energy, climate change, automation, and defense analysis. He received a joint Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon, and a M.P.A. in Public Policy from New York University.
