Please join the Payne Institute for Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines as we welcome Mines Rick Tallman ’85, MS ’93 Founder and Partner Renova Capital, presenting a hybrid seminar titled An Unconventional Way to Drive the Energy Transition on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 12:00pm – 1:00pm (MT).

Solving monumental problems creates monumental value. When the problem is as big as climate change, the opportunities for new solutions are immense – and so are the pitfalls. Rick Tallman will share real world examples including how his company designed a net zero apartment complex in Seattle using technology that didn’t exist by investing in it. He will talk about industry trends and outcomes. What’s working and what’s not? Who will be the winners and losers? What technologies are the most exciting and where are the dead ends? Where is there money to make – and lose?

Rick Tallman ’85, MS ’93 is a founding partner at Renova Capital, a Denver-based private equity firm that develops and commercializes novel sustainable technologies. He currently serves as an executive and board member of Sustainable Living Innovations, a Renova portfolio company that is building the world’s first zero-energy high rise residential towers. Rick also served as CEO and then Chairman of another Renova portfolio company, Main Street Power (now AES Clean Energy), a pioneering solar company that launched the industry’s first residential solar leasing fund. Earlier in his career, he established a reputation as a successful entrepreneur by founding and leading a variety of early-stage companies through initial public offering or acquisition. This included a leading superfund remediation firm, a pioneer of municipal water utility privatization, and one of the very first internet photo community sites. Rick served as a Company Commander in the US Army during the Persian Gulf War and serves on a variety of corporate and non-profit boards. He holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Geological Engineering from Colorado School of Mines, where he currently serves on the Board of Governors.
