A First look at the New Orleans power outage

The Payne Institute Earth Observation Group uses satellite detection to look at the large scale power outage in Louisiana on September 2, 2021.  Category 4 hurricane Ida made landfall near Port Fourchon, LA on August 29, 2021 at 16:55UTC.  The aftermath caused significant power outages in LA.   The image shows how nighttime lights around New Orleans after the storm compare to what is typical.  The outage are is in red, normal power supply is in yellow, and terrain and clouds are in blue.  The data was collected by JPSS NPP satellite on September 2, 2021 between 1am and 3am local time.  September 2, 2021.
